Nepal is an agricultural country. Agriculture is a very important sector for income generation and employment and about 27% of the national gross domestic product comes from this sector. About 65% of the total population depends on agriculture and related activities for their livelihood. As a public sector entity for importing high quality and advanced agricultural inputs (fertilizers, seeds, agrochemicals and equipment) and selling and distributing them at affordable prices across the country.
The Agricultural Ingredients Corporation was established in 2022 BS. Initially known as the Agricultural Supply Corporation, it was later merged with the Food Management Committee and renamed the Agricultural Purchase and Sales Corporation. For two years, the organization traded in both agricultural products and foodstuffs. Later B.Sc. In 2031 BS, the government split this organization and set up two separate institutes to manage agricultural inputs, namely the Agricultural Ingredients Institute and the Nepal Food Institute to deal in food grains.
On 2059 BS. the government passed the Companies Act in the Agricultural Materials Corporation. Under 2053 BS, it was transformed into an agri-products company and a national seed vision company with full ownership of the government. The Agricultural Ingredients Company was tasked to purchase and distribute chemical fertilizers across the country.
As Nepal does not have its own production of chemical fertilizers, it is buying and selling chemical fertilizers from the international market on the basis of the grant budget received from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. As per the decision of Nepal Soccer dated 075/04/17, the National Seed Company Limited has been merged with this company and seed business has also been done.
