Landslide victims were happy with the presence of “Minister Gurung” in Dolakha

Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Parbat Gurung has reached the affected area on Saturday to understand the plight of the victims of the recent floods and landslides in the northern part of Dolakha.
There he met the landslide victims and provided immediate relief. Minister Gurung expressed his determination to take initiative from the government level for the long-term solution of the problem by meeting the families of the victims and the displaced persons.
Minister Gurung was committed to always be with the people not only when they are happy but also when they are in trouble.
“I’m not just coming to inaugurate or wear a garland. The sorrow you have suffered is also my sorrow. Therefore, I have come to apply ointment on this pain, even if it is small, he said among the victims.
One person was killed in a landslide in Gaurishankar village of North Dolakha district. Nine houses, including a health post, have been flooded due to the floods.
The deceased has been identified as Suresh Shiwakoti, 28, of Gaurishankar rural municipality -8, Sunkhani of Kalinchok rural municipality in Tunitar of Khare.
On the same day, the floods from Gaurishankar rural municipality -6, Gurumphi instead of Suri Khola have damaged nine houses including a health post. About 40 people have been displaced.
Similarly, the landslide on the same day has damaged four houses in Gaurishankar 8 Khare Jyamire and buried dozens of cattle. Landslides are taking place in various places including Chankhu and Marvu of Gaurishankar rural municipality. Hydropower projects including Sipringkhola, Universal and Surikhola in the northern region have been damaged.
Minister Gurung had handed over cash assistance to the victim from the individual level through village chairman Swyam Bahadur Khadka. Along with the Minister, Bagmati MP Saraswati Basnet, Acting Vice Chairman of Bagmati Planning Commission Shyam Basnet, Journalist Balram Thapa, Mayor of Bhimeshwar Municipality Bharat KC, Chairman of Melung rural municipality Nara Bahadur Shrestha and Chairman of Vigu rural municipality Yudhisthira Khadka reached the affected area.
Chief District Officer Bhim Kant Sharma, District Police Chief Revati Pokharel and other local media persons also joined the team. On the initiative of Minister Gurung, relief materials including clothes have also been distributed by the Nepal Red Cross. He directed the District Disaster Management Committee and the local level to make necessary arrangements for immediate relief and rehabilitation of the victims by making necessary coordination.
