Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a World Heritage Site, is witnessing an increase in the number of domestic tourists. With the opening of traffic, the number of visitors has increased. Bhaktapur Durbar area (Nepal: ख्वप लाईकु) is an attractive center of the world.

That is why it is listed in the World Heritage List. It is the ancient royal palace of the kings of Bhaktapur. At 1,400 meters (4,600 feet) above sea level, the palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bhaktapur Durbar area is located in Bhaktapur Municipality or Khwa Pa. This palace area is located 13 kilometers east of the capital Kathmandu. Although there are four separate areas in the palace complex (Durbar area, Taumadhi area, Dattatreya area and Pottery area), it is unofficially called Bhaktapur Durbar area. It is the most visited Durbar area in the Kathmandu Valley.

History

Bhaktapur Durbar area is important not only from historical point of view but also for ancient cultural crafts and handicrafts. In ancient times, the Malla kings ruled from this royal palace.

Fifty-five palace
King Bhupatindra Malla started the construction of Pachpannajyale Durbar (Nepal: Nengapa Jya: Laiku) during his reign and the construction of the palace was completed during the reign of his son Ranjit Malla in Nepal Samvat 828 (Bikram Samvat 1765).
