Rabindra Dhungel, 30 september 2020. Tottenham Hotspur have beaten Premier League rivals London club Chelsea in the fourth round of the English Football League (EFL) Cup. Tottenham made it to the previous round with a 5-4 win over Chelsea in a penalty shootout on Tuesday night. The match was decided in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Tottenham’s Harry Kane scored the decisive goal when Chelsea’s Mason Mount missed the final penalty. Tottenham’s Eric Dyer, Eric Lamela, Pierre Emil Hodgsburg, Lukau Moura and Harry Kane scored from the penalty spot. Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham, Cesar Azpilicueta, Jurginho and Emerson all scored, while Hugo Loris saved Mason Mount’s shot to give Tottenham the win.
Earlier in the day at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the visiting team Chelsea took the lead in the 19th minute through a goal by Timo Werner. Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta snatched Sergio Riguilon, who was playing his debut for Tottenham, and gave Kalum Hudson Odoi a pass from Azpilicueta. Tottenham missed the draw in the 22nd minute when Gdson Fernandez missed. In the 35th minute, Serg Aurier’s pass from Eric Lamela was saved by Chelsea debutant goalkeeper Edward Mendy. In the 50th minute, Sergio Riguillon’s shot was blocked by goalkeeper Mendy and Tottenham missed the equalizer.
Chelsea failed to double their lead in the 73rd minute when Hugo Loris saved Timo Werner’s shot. In the 77th minute, Hudson Odoi could not control Jurginho’s long pass. Eric Lamela scored in the 83rd minute to level the game at 1-1. Lamela scored on a cross pass from Sergio Riguelon. After that, the game was pushed to penalty shootout as no more goals could be scored.
