Rabindra Dhungel, 26 september 2020. For the past few years, the number of cyclists on the roads of Kathmandu Valley has been increasing. The number of cyclists has increased, especially on public holidays. Photos and videos of people riding bicycles around the valley to make good use of public holidays can also be seen on social media.

The use of bicycles is considered good not only in terms of environment but also in terms of economy and health. Therefore, in recent times, the use of bicycles as an alternative to diesel and petrol vehicles has increased.

It has been a long time since cyclists started demanding bicycle routes on the roads of the valley. It is not that the government has not made a plan for this. But nothing has happened effectively.

However, some groups are continuing their campaign saying that Kathmandu can be developed as a bicycle city. The Lalitpur Municipal Corporation started the cycle lane in association with the campaign of the same engineer.

However, so far it has been limited to the inauguration.

Sales increased due to lockouts and bans
Demand for bicycles is increasing in the market due to lockdown and ban. Demand for bicycles has increased in the market as the government’s lockdown and ban has been relaxed.

Also, due to the increasing demand for bicycles, there is a shortage of bicycles in the market, said the bicycle dealers.

Different types of bicycles of different companies are available in the market. However, they say that the highest price of Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 is consumed in the Nepali market.

Lately, we have seen many people riding bicycles on the road due to compulsion or desire. Some people have a desire to ride a bicycle while some people also have a desire to ride a bicycle for the sake of health.

Also, since some people have a ‘hobby’ of cycling, even young and old have started showing interest in cycling.
