In the inaugural match played in Abu Dhabi, UAE last night, Chennai got off to a winning start by defeating defending champions Mumbai Indians by five wickets. Chennai completed the target of 163 runs set by Mumbai at Sheikh Zayed Stadium by losing 5 wickets in 19 overs. In Chennai’s victory, Ambati Rayadu played a half-century innings of 71 runs.
Similarly, Fap du Plessis remained unbeaten and scored 55 runs. Earlier, losing the toss and batting first, Mumbai lost 9 wickets in 20 overs and scored 162 runs.
With the win, Chennai has avenged the loss to Mumbai in the final of the 12th edition. In last year’s final, Mumbai had beaten Chennai by one run. Similarly, Dhoni has completed his 100th victory for Chennai under his captaincy.
