Chelsea’s great start in the English Premier League
Rabindra Dhungel, 15 september 2020. Jurginho, Reiss James and Kurt Zouma all scored in Chelsea’s win at Brighton. Leandro Trosard of the home team returned a goal. In Monday night’s game, Chelsea took the lead in the 23rd minute through a penalty kick.
Jurginho made no mistake in the penalty after Timo Werner fought in the penalty box to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead. The referee awarded a penalty to Chelsea after goalkeeper Matthew Ryan fouled Werner, who single-handedly stepped on Jaginho’s pass from Steven Aljet’s miss.
In the 27th minute, the home team lost the opportunity to equalize the game. Chelsea’s goalkeeper Kipa easily took control when Neil Moupe failed to meet in the penalty box on Tariq Lampate’s cross. In the 36th minute, Steven Aljet’s shot came out of the post and the home team lost again.
Chelsea failed to double their lead after goalkeeper Ryan saved Timo Werner’s shot during the injury time of the first half. Goalkeeper Ryan intercepted Werner’s attack on defender Adam Webster.
Brighton put Chelsea under pressure by holding the ball in possession and leveled the game 1-1 in the 54th minute. Leandro Trossard’s shot from outside the penalty box on a pass from Tariq Lampate from Yves Bissouma took the direction of the post.
However, Brighton’s equalizer did not last even two minutes. Reese Witherspoon scored in the 56th minute to give Chelsea a 2–1 lead. Goalkeeper Ryan had no chance to stop when a powerful shot from 25 yards out by Reese Witherspoon into Jurginho’s pass was converted into a goal.
In the 59th minute, Brighton wasted a golden opportunity to equalize. The header from near the post of Captain Lewis Dunk on the cross of Trosard was slightly out.
Kurt Zouma scored in the 66th minute to give Chelsea a comfortable victory. Joe’s good shot in the corner of Reese Witherspoon kissed the net. Goalkeeper Ryan saved Ross Barkley’s shot during the injury.
After that no more goals were scored and Chelsea won 3-1. With the victory, Chelsea has taken 3 important points from the first game.
Brighton held on to ball possession but lost the first game due to a quick attack and inability to finish. Kai Hawertz, who made his debut for Chelsea, did not perform as well as expected. Coach Frank Lampard played him until the 80th minute.
