Now a telecommunication service provider is not allowed to issue more than two SIM cards in the name of the same person. The board meeting of Nepal Telecommunication Authority has taken a decision in this regard on Sunday. NEA spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal informed that instructions have been given to the service providers accordingly.
According to NEA, the directive will be implemented immediately. Now if a person has already issued two or more SIM cards in his name, he will not be able to get another SIM. Spokesperson Aryal has informed that NEA will discuss with the service provider about the SIM card issued earlier.
It has been informed that NEA will soon discuss with the service provider about what to do if more than two SIM cards are issued in the name of the same person. He also clarified that the NEA has demanded data on the number of service providers taking two or more SIM cards.
In the case of Nepal Telecom, three SIMs will be issued in the name of the same person. Telecom’s GSM service has two SIMs and CDM service has one additional SIM. As banking transactions are done on the basis of SIM card, it is a directive not to issue multiple SIMs in the name of one person for the security of the consumers.
