Bhaleshwar Mahadev Temple is a famous temple located on Chandagiri hill in Kathmandu district. The temple is located at 2,551 meters above sea level. It is mentioned in the Himavatkhand that the Bhaleshwar Mahadev temple originated at this place as the forehead of Shati Devi fell while she was carrying the dead body of Shati Devi around the earth. According to various narrations, there is a belief that if one visits this Bhaleshwar Mahadev, the wishes of the devotees will be fulfilled and in the end he will live in Shivalok.
Chandagiri is also a very important place in terms of historical significance. Nation Builder Prithvinarayan Shah had observed the Kathmandu Valley from this place during the unification of Nepal. At that time, Prithvinarayan Shah expressed his desire to conquer the valley at the Bhaleshwar Mahadev Temple and it is believed that Bhaleshwar Mahadev fulfilled his wish.
