Rabindra Dhungel, 30 August 2020.
The Hetauda Cement Industry, which has been closed for the past three weeks due to a restraining order issued by the District Administration Office, Makwanpur, has resumed operations today.
General Manager of the industry Prem Shankar Singh informed that the industry has been operating with the approval of the local administration from today. Stating that there is no shortage of raw material and manpower for cement production, it is said that it has been operated to produce 9,000 bags of cement per day instead of full capacity.
He said that most of the districts in the country, including Kathmandu, have been banned and construction work has been stopped.
As the quantity of coal is less, a tender has already been issued to prevent shortage of coal in the coming days. After the global spread of corona, the industry was shut down in Nepal on March 26, 2076, but four lakh bags of cement produced in that period, 2076/77, were sold even though it was shut down.
The industry was shut down several times in 2076 BS due to malfunction in the industry machine. Due to which the industry has gone into loss instead of producing cement as per the target. It is said that a lot of money has been spent on machine maintenance and operation of old machines.
The industry administration has stated that the production cost has gone up due to the reduction in working capacity due to the age of the machines in the industry.
