[Despite taking 2 wickets, Sandeep failed to bat and lost to Jamaica]

Jamaica’s Talawaj, including Nepali spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, has suffered its third defeat in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). In the fifth match of the tournament on Thursday morning, the batsmen failed to perform as expected and Jamaica lost to Barbados by 36 runs.

Chasing the target of 149 for victory, Jamaica lost 9 wickets in 20 overs and managed to add only 112 runs. Apart from Kruma Bonner (31) and Jermaine Blackwood (28), no other batsmen contributed significantly. Barbados spinners Rashid Khan and Mitchell Santner took 2-2 and Hayden Walls took 1 wicket. Jason Holder and Ramon Rifer shared 2 wickets each.

Jamaica lost 4 wickets in the seventh over to add 27 runs. Opener Glenn Phillips was bowled for zero in the first over by Mitchell Santner, while another opener Chadwick Walton was cut behind for 10 runs. Captain Holder caught Walton in the second over and Robman Powell in the fifth over from wicketkeeper Shyhop.

Asif Ali added 2 runs and was caught by Hayden Walls Jr.. Carlos Braithwaite added just one run before Rashid Khan’s LBW was caught. Jermaine Blackwood contributed 28 runs off 28 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes. He was caught by Captain Holder off Santner.

Bonner added 31 runs off 28 balls. Bonner Rashid Khan, who hit 3 fours and 1 six, was caught out for a big shot. Mujib faced 10 balls in the bottom order and added 18 runs with 1 four and 2 sixes. He was lbw out on a reverse shot by Ramon Rifer. Sandeep remained unbeaten on 4 and Edwards on 2.

For Jamaica, who won the toss and elected to field first, Sandeep Lamichhane and Mujib Ur Rehman continued to excel. But the fast bowler could not help as well as Barbados lost 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and added 148 runs.

Kyle Meyers was the top scorer for Barbados with 85 runs. He struck three fours and eight sixes in 59 balls. He changed the course of the game by adding 29 runs with 4 sixes in the 18th over thrown by Carlos Braithwaite. Meyers and Holder shared 63 runs for the third wicket to lead the team to a strong score.
