Rabindra Dhungel, 20 august 2020. Twin raw apples have started appearing in the market here. Twin apples should be 12 percent sweet and 70 percent colored when fully ripe. Apples produced in Tatopani and Tila villages of Jumla district have reached the market without ripening.
According to Balakram Devkota, chief of the District Agriculture Development Office, about 60 tonnes of apples have reached the market from the two local levels. He said that this time the traders took the unripe apples to Surkhet market.
He said, “We had requested not to give a recommendation below September 25. Raw apples could not be stopped when the local ward chairman recommended for arbitrary transportation, which raised questions about the quality of the twin apples. ”
Chief of the office, Devkota, said that raw apples have reached the market as the locals do not understand their importance. As the greenery is approaching, traders here are in a hurry to pick raw apples. Apple production is likely to be very low this time.
The agriculture office has estimated that five thousand one hundred metric tons of apples will be produced. The Agriculture Development Office has urged not to rush to pick apples as the importance of apples increases due to lack of production.
Golden, Royal, Red, Jonathan, Switch Amy and Chocolate varieties of apples are produced in the district. Recently, Australian variety Fuji Saus has also been cultivated in the district.
Gorkha Basnet, an apple farmer of Tila Gaonpalika-1, said that there is a big problem in transporting ripe apples to Surkhet and Nepalgunj due to the ban. Last year, the district produced 12,000 metric tons of apples.
