By Rabindra Dhungel, Kathmandu, Fri, 9 Aug 2020 . Indian foreign Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar claims that the God Gautam Buddha was born in India. In a virtual conference held on Saturday, Jai Shankar claimed that Gautam Buddha was an Indian.
“We know Gautam Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi as great Indians,” said Indian External Affairs Minister Jayashankar. Mahatma Gandhi is from India. But Gautam Buddha is not Indian. Gautam Buddha is the son of a Nepali mother. He was born in Nepal. Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that Buddha was born in India.
There was intense protest in Nepal. While addressing the parliament during his visit to Nepal, Modi had said that Nepal is the land of Buddha. But two years ago, at the UN General Assembly, Modi said India had given the world a Buddha.
Some Indians have been claiming that Gautam Buddha, who was born in Kapilvastu, Nepal, was born in India. India has even made fake Kapilavastu to show that Buddha was born in India. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been constantly protesting against this. He has the support of the people on such issues.
