Staff who transfer money from Rural Municipality to their own account : They are competing to become corrupt
Rabindra Dhungel, Kathmandu, Fri, 7 Aug 2020 . Sometimes corruption is heard from the people’s representatives and sometimes from the employees. Meanwhile, four people, including Hemant KC, an accountant of Triveni rural municipality in Rukum West, have been arrested on charges of embezzling Rs 2.5 million from the municipality.
He was arrested on Thursday night while arranging documents of the money laundered at the rural municipality office. Chief District Officer Upendra Raj Poudel informed that Accountant KC, his accountant and nephew Subash KC, brother Vikas and another nephew Bhimsen were arrested on the charge of depositing government money in the accounts of his wife and nephew.
The locals had informed the police when they came to know that they were locking the office of the village municipality from outside at night. Police arrested them from the office and brought them to the district headquarters.
Accountant KC is accused of depositing Rs. 24 lakh 92 thousand 372 in the account of himself, wife and nephew Subash from the budget of 2076-77 last year. After the incident was exposed, KC has returned the money deposited in his and his family members’ accounts under various headings to the village municipality’s account.
The village executive committee had also expressed interest after finding out that the government money was deposited in the account of the person without any purpose. After this matter came out, the district administration office has started investigation.
He is now being kept at the District Police Office. They are being further investigated. If the allegations are proved, action will be taken according to the law, said Poudel.
