Rabindra Dhungel, Kathmandu, Fri, 7 Aug 2020 . A person convicted of m’urd’er is sentenced to a few years in prison. But the thought of having to spend almost three decades in prison without any guilt is heartbreaking. But a similar incident has taken place in China. A man jailed for 27 years in eastern China has been acquitted of m’urd’er.
Zhang Yukhan, who was forced to confess to ki’llin’g two young men in 1993 AD after being tortured by police, has been released. He spent 9,778 days in prison in Jiangsu Province, the longest prison term in China.
Prosecutors who reopened the case against him said his confession was inconsistent and did not match the original ‘c’ri’me.
He was acquitted after a high court found there was not enough evidence to prove his guilt. According to observers, China is keen to reverse the allegations, but focuses on c’rimi’nal issues rather than political ones.
