Landslide in Melamchi, 8 workers missing, one rescued alive
Kathmandu. A landslide has hit Melamchi Municipality-11 of Sindhupalchowk district. Eight people have gone missing after being buried in a landslide. One person has been rescued alive by the police.
Workers working on the construction of the covered hall were buried in the landslide that came at around 2 last night. Police were called to the scene around 3 p.m. According to SP Prajwal Maharjan of the District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk, an Indian people was rescued alive in a three-hour effort and sent to a primary health center for first aid.
Mayor of Melamchi Municipality Dambar Bahadur Aryal said that eight workers were buried in the landslide and they have not been evacuated yet. Police said that they are trying to search for those buried in the landslide. Nepal Army, police and locals have been deployed in the rescue operation. Twenty people who went missing in the floods and landslides in Bhotekoshi, Bulkute and Thado rivers of Sindhupalchowk on July 8 have not been found yet.
